Top Descriptions

With its close proximity to and and location between and , Lake Naivasha is in a prime spot for drawing in tourists looking for something other than a safari. But as with many such spots in East Africa, this is not a backpacker-friendly place. Accommodations are spread out along the lake and cost more than is usual in , mainly due to the fact that Lake Naivasha is close enough for weekending Nairobians. The lake itself doesn’t offer up much in the way of attractions either, and the electric fence that lines it guarantees for difficult access. Nevertheless, this is a relaxing spot to while away a few days, especially if you’re looking to visit one of the nearby national parks and have some time to spare. – Daniel

Top Tips

Don’t expect to able to survive very well on a budget here. Everything is very spread out, there is little in the way of facilities or amenities, and the lakeside restaurants/accommodation are overpriced and limited. Stock up before arriving here if you can.
Unless you’re after a party, try to avoid staying at one of the lakeside accommodations such as at the weekend. This is when excitable residents tend to descend (noisily) onto the lake.
If you’re travelling here by bus and your bus doesn’t pull into Naivasha town, then a boda-boda from the highway through Naivasha and down to the lakeside accommodation shouldn’t cost you more than KES500. Alternatively, you could catch a boda-boda into Naivasha town for less than KES150 and then hop onboard one of the many matatus that circle the lake.
Do be sure to check out and while you’re in the area.
