Lake Nakuru National Park is firmly on the tourist circuit, and for good reason. This national park has a beautiful lakeside setting, it’s one of the easiest places in Kenya to see rhinos, and it’s beside the fairly well facilitated city of Nakuru (which is only a couple of hours from Nairobi). It can’t compete with the Maasai Mara National Reserve or Amboseli National Park for wilderness factor or sheer diversity of wildlife, but it’s certainly worth a morning or afternoon heading between other parks. – Daniel

Top Tips
Don’t expect a vast wilderness here. Although you will see power lines and general human habitation beside the Main Gate, once you’ve driven to the opposite side of the lake to the town then things get a lot quieter.
It is very possible to see both white and black rhino here, with the former species being calmer and generally easier to spot. If you’re lucky, the rhino won’t simply be in the middle of a large panorama and therefore difficult to photograph – if this happens, be patient and they might come nearer.
Due to a rise in water levels a few years back, Lake Nakuru National Park now has far fewer flamingos than it once did (although there are still some to be found on the eastern shore). Some of the game-viewing tracks have also been completely submerged.
