This is a fairly straightforward and simple border crossing, with stress on the simple. Don’t expect much in the way of facilities here, though you can expect friendlier border officials than usual – particularly when arriving on the Ugandan side.

Top Tips
You won’t need to do anything on the Rwandan side of the border (although there are toilets behind the Rwandan immigration office on your left should you need them), so continue straight over by foot for less than 5 minutes to the Ugandan side. You will find the Ugandan immigration office on your left.
Once at the Ugandan immigration office, you will need to queue three times. The first is to the far right of the office. Here they will stamp you out of Rwanda and ask you to complete a (rather pointless) arrival form. After you receive your stamp, you must then go to a small shed about 100m in front of the office to have a friendly policeman add your details to his ledger and give you a small ticket. You will then head back to the queue on the left of the first queue to hand in your ticket and your arrival card and have your passport stamped. If you don’t already have your visa, the process may be slightly different.
Onward travel is quite limited, but a boda-boda shouldn’t cost more than UGX4,000 for the 15-minute (9km) journey to Kisoro from where you can find onward transport.
