Be prepared to extend your stay, especially in Kibuye. This lake may be rather devoid of activities but it certainly makes for a pleasant and relaxing few days.
Although reportedly free of Bilharzia (and crocodiles and hippos) due to the high concentrations of methane dissolved within the lake, anecdotal evidence indicates that you may still want to think twice about swimming here – as enticing as it.
Don’t expect the prolific amount of wildlife found at other rift valley lakes in East Africa. Periodic extinctions due to the methane in the lake have kept the flora and fauna in check here.
