A pleasant walk is from Nungwi Beach 1 through Nungwi Beach 2 and ending along Nungwi Beach 3. You’ll know when you’ve hit the second beach by the increase in locals and dhows, while the third beach is from the lighthouse on and beyond the big wooden jetty.
You can return the way you came or head inland to one of the resorts or guesthouses there (such as Mabwe Roots Bungalows) to try for a taxi or boda-boda – which admittedly can be few and far between.

Though the ocean view remains similar, this beautiful walk lets you appreciate the distinctions between the beaches along the Nungwi coast. You pass by rock pools, fishing villages, 5* resorts and eateries, and budget wooden-shack bars. There is some hassle from beach sellers but they are easy to shake off and for the most part you will be left alone to enjoy the surroundings. – Sarah
Top Tips
This walk is not possible during high tide, so time your excursion well or rely on using the backroads through the village.
Do dress modestly (especially through Nungwi Beach 2) and bring supplies – there aren’t too many shops along the way. You might also want to bring some shoes should you have to head inland.
