Paje is a long, windswept and seaweedy stretch of beach set beside a rambling village. It’s not half as attractive as Nungwi in the north of Zanzibar, but at certain times of the year this village draws in the kitesurfers like few other places in the world. There’s not much to do beside the beach, and if you’re here to enjoy it without a kite and a board then this might not be the best place for you. – Daniel

Top Tips
With less to do and warmer water than at Nungwi, it’s suprising that Paje Beach feels just as busy – especially with kitesurfers. The beachside scene here is certainly more low-key, but if you’re not planning on kitesurfing, then this might not be the best spot for you.
If you’re here on a budget, consider staying at Marhaba House and cooking for yourself there. The restaurants in Paje aren’t cheap, but the local shops (such as Local Shop 1) certainly are!
You can catch dala-dalas to Paje from Stone Town in about 90 minutes for TZS2,000. TZS45,000 would just about get you a taxi.
