This is a quick and fairly efficiently organised ferry journey. The boat is a modernish catamaran, so you can expect to be locked indoors for the majority of the journey although there are good windows to look out of. The journey isn’t long, but if you suffer from sea sickness these oceans can get rough so come prepared.

Top Tips
For how much these tickets cost and how long the journey takes (1 hour and 30 minutes), this trip could most certainly be better priced. You might want to look into how much flying costs…
If you’re headed to Julius Nyerere International Airport straight after the ferry, you might want to consider flying from Zanzibar. With the cost of the taxi from the ferry terminal to the airport included, it might work out quite similar in price.
If you have luggage, expect for it to be loaded up into metal cages and not allowed with you on the ferry (this is especially true for muzungus). Unfortunately, this means you’ll have to wait until after the ferry docks for all passengers to disembark and all luggage cages (there were at least 10) to be dragged up and unpacked. Expect for this to take between 30 minutes and an hour.
