Tanga is one of Tanzania‘s largest cities, but it’s also one of its quietest too. While there may be very little on offer here to draw in casual tourists aside from its gentle seaside location, the city’s position between Dar es Salaam and Mombasa in Kenya makes for a very useful stopping off point. Perhaps just don’t plan on stopping off for too long! – Daniel

There’s not much to do in Tanga aside from the rather disappointing Tongoni Ruins, that is unless you’re happy to while away the days at the pleasant Tanga Yacht Club Beach.
If you’re in Tanzania on a budget, consider staying at the Motel Sea View and eating at the Food Palace (although it’s only open for lunch during the week!).
If you’re headed to Zanzibar and are thinking of flying, you can find flights from Tanga for about USD100.
