Top Descriptions

“This is a rare opportunity to see wild chimpanzees in their natural environment. While this may not be much of a tracking experience (the chimps are often in the forest beside the tea plantations), it is a humbling experience to be able to observe man’s closest relative. This reserve is also locally run, and in an interesting part of the country.”

Top Tips

Reportedly, the likelihood of finding the chimpanzees currently stands at about 80%. Do ask the staff whether the chimps are nearby (and therefore viewable) because the guides keep in close touch with the trackers by phone. If you’re worried about hiking in to the forest, it is even possible that you will not have to walk more than 15 minutes to find the chimps ;).
Before you go chimp tracking, establish that if you are unable to find the chimps you’d rather pay the UGX70,000 nature walk fee and not the UGX140,000 chimp-tracking fee. We did, and they seemed fine with this (probably owing to their confidence in locating the chimps).
To contact the reserve, try Judith the manager (0704933408), Lucky the supervisor (0750827667) or Lawrence the guide (0703444188).
