Kisoro might be a small and scruffy little strip of a town, but it’s in a great location if you’re looking to explore the Virunga Mountains, visit nearby Lake Bunyonyi or travel to or from neighbouring Rwanda. For this purpose, Kisoro does fairly well. There’s a couple of decent enough restaurants in town, and some OK places to stay too such as Mucha Guesthouse. If you’re not planning on going Gorilla Tracking or doing the Sabinyo Volcano Hike (or other hikes in Mgahinga Gorilla NP), then you might want to move on quickly however, as the cut-rate exhaust fumes seem to linger here more than in other places in Rwanda. – Daniel

Top Tips
If you’re not thinking of entering the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, aside from a few lakes there may be little to keep you in Kisoro for long. Of course, you could always spend a night or two here on the way to Rwanda through the Cyanika border crossing .
If you’re on a budget, consider eating lunch every day at Nicky's Restaurant for about UGX6,000.
Don’t expect many things in Kisoro to be open before midday on a Sunday. You can also expect pretty poor access to the internet here and looong queues outside the cash machines on certain days.
