If you’re looking for a peaceful and affordable few nights amidst the wildlife in rural Uganda, then strongly consider visiting the Toro Crater Lakes. Not only are there a good array of cheap campsites situated on the banks of numerous lakes teeming with wildlife, but each of these campsites has something different to offer. Whether it’s hikes to nearby waterfalls, close encounters with troops of monkeys or nature walks in the surrounding area, you’ll be sure to enjoy your stay at the lakes if you’re even remotely an outdoors enthusiast. Coming here without your own transport and a tent might very well make for quite a different experience, but if you are self sufficient and have the time to while away in nature and happen to be in the Fort Portal area, then the Toro Crater Lakes make for a pleasant and more than worthwhile diversion. – Daniel

If you’re interested in having close encounters with up to four species of monkey, try staying at the Original Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve for at least a night or two.
The Mahoma Falls Hike is one of the best (and cheapest) ways to have a guided exploration of the Toro Crater Lakes – and the waterfall is quite impressive at the right time of year too!
This is a cheap and relaxing place to camp for a few days. If you are camping in the area, do be careful not to leave any edibles in your tent that might attract the mischievous monkeys ;).
