Famous for Tsingtao beer, fresh seafood, and for being one of the cleanest and prettiest cities in China, Qingdao in Shandong province makes for a coastal city worth visiting – especially in the warmer months when you can take advantage of the many beaches on offer here. This city did win an award for being ‘most liveable’ in China back in 2012, and it’s not hard to see why. This is a large city though, and some attractions are quite spread out, so make sure you come with plenty of time to spare, particularly if you’re looking to hike in nearby Laoshan National Forest Park. Many restaurants here also do not cater too well for an English-speaking clientele, so be prepared to have to sometimes go on the hunt.

Top Tips
A good place to start exploring the city might be at the Zhan Qiao Pier. From here you could walk all the way to Zhongshan Park, finding many small attractions in between.
If you live in South Korea, look out for the cheap flights that land in Qingdao’s international airport. Qingdao then makes for a great place to start exploring China.
Definitely consider visiting nearby Laoshan National Forest Park while you’re in the area. The hike up to the Jufeng Peak Viewpoint is particularly rewarding, especially in the winter. There are reportedly many venomous snakes on this mountain during the summer though, so do watch out if you’re there at that time.
