As the sole coastal city in Jordan, Aqaba is undoubtedly popular. Its position on the perfect blue Gulf of Aqaba is rather alluring, and the city benefits also from more stable temperatures year round than locations further north in the country. While some tourists may be drawn here for the excellent snorkelling and scuba diving sites that can be found in the surrounding region, many visiting on holiday are from neighbouring countries such as Saudi Arabia and are here to take advantage of city’s low-tax, duty-free status. – Daniel

Keep in mind that this is a popular spot for tourism from the Arabian Gulf, and so think twice before you decide to wear a bikini on the beach or flash your tattoos. A burkini would probably be more appropriate, although a t-shirt would do!
Some of the more attractive accommodation such as Arab Divers Hotel is a good way out of the city, and so if you do end up staying there expect to have a limited array of dining options on offer.
The city can be quite busy of an evening, especially in the promenade starting just after the Aqaba Castle. It’s worth wandering around here during dusk before settling in for dinner somewhere nearby.
