The Directions

Follow the path past the row of Royal tombs, with Palace tomb being the last. A few meters past this you should come to a staircase on your right that climbs up the mountain. Follow this staircase, which will turn into a trail towards the top. It is one well-trodden trail all the way to the viewpoint and shouldn’t take you longer than 45 minutes.

As the name suggests, this viewpoint allows you the opportunity to see the famous from above. It gives you a chance to gain a different perspective of this monumental structure, while getting a better sense of the landscape that surrounds it! – Sarah

Top Tips

There is a tiny shack at the viewpoint which offers soft drinks on ice (when the owner is there) and a chance to chill at the top.
The walk to and from the viewpoint will likely add a good couple of hours onto your visit, so plan accordingly.
There are some excellent views of below you on your right before reaching the viewpoint.
The gentleman who worked at the shack did offer us the chance to stay there for a few hours, where his family would provide dinner, and we could watch the Petra Night show for free. Though we couldn’t accept, it is something you may want to consider and prepare for.
