Luang Prabang is somewhat of a special place. Perched at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, the town is simply filled with religious-historical attractions. The amount of impressive and disparate wats here really is impressive, with Haw Pha Bang and Wat Xieng Thong being two good ones to start with. Of course, the limestone environment guarantees for a beautiful setting and nearby outdoor attractions such as the sublime Kuang Si Waterfalls. There is a gentrified cafe culture here, for sure. The streets are clean and orderly, and the prices that bit higher than elsewhere. If only the food could live up to the town’s reputation, you might have something close to nirvana here, if you’re that way inclined. A particularly fervent time to visit would be the festival of Pii Mai in April. Otherwise, Luang Prabang should be more aptly relaxed and welcoming for the rest of the year.

Top Tips
The market stalls next to the Tuk Tuk Stop for Kuang Si Waterfalls are a great place for cheap breakfast smoothies and lunch time snacks.
Split your temple visits into at least two days. That way you won’t get too templed out (there are a lot of beautiful wats!).
