The Directions

With your back to , head left up the small hill. At the top you should quickly pass the on your right. Stay on this road for a good 45 minutes. On a clear day you will have excellent views of up to four volcanoes to your left. Muhabbura and Gahinga volcanoes should certainly be visible except for on the cloudiest of days

After about 45 minutes of sticking to the same road, you should see a sign for ‘Nateete’ on your left and a church on your right. Very shortly after these landmarks you will find a fairly solid (but not tarmac) road heading right towards Lake Mutanda. To be sure, look for a sign for the Mutanda Eco Community Centre pointing down this road. Follow this very rural road for about half an hour until you come to Lake Mutanda in the distance. How far you choose to walk down this path is up to you. We turned around here and returned to due to heavy rain

Top Tips

This isn’t the only road that leads to Lake Mutanda, but it is the quickest on foot.
Expect to be heckled by children all along this route, but especially once you’ve turned off the main road.
Try not to encourage the children further by giving them anything. We’ve found that either ignoring them or making conversation with them is the best way to respond.
