The Directions

With your back to the front gate, start by heading along the road in front of you. Follow the main road out of town towards , heading past the Bird Nest Resort and up to the 5-way junction at the top of the hill. It should take you no more than 40 minutes. From here at the top of the hill, you should be able to get good views of down one side – especially from to your left – and obscured views of Kabale on the other.

Follow the turn off heading down towards . You’ll know you’re on the right path if you pass the gas station on your left pretty quickly (plus you can see in the distance). From here, you can either follow the main road down and around in a big loop or look for the shortcut that leads straight down the mountain using local paths (you can find the shortcut just opposite the gas station – although it’s clearer to find coming back up the mountain).

After about 45 minutes to an hour (depending on whether you take the shortcut) you’ll come to the main road where you should take the right turn heading into The town proper is about another 20 or so minutes along this road. puts you bang in the centre of town and is a good place to stop for a cool drink or an ice cream. Later, you can choose to return to Lake Bunyonyi via boda-boda (UGX5,000), or walk back the way you came (being sure to take the shortcuts if you’re feeling tired or hot).
