Top Descriptions

Niaochao Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest for its unique design, is regarded by many as a great accomplishment in modern architecture. It’s certainly bold and unique. For most, a trip here is a quick walk to see the stadium relatively close up, a photo, and back on the metro or bus but you could spend some time walking around this area and the park farther north if you were in no rush.

If you’ve written a description for Niaochao Beijing National Stadium you’d like to share with the community, send it to [email protected] and we’ll post it right here in the directory.

Top Tips

If you only want to view the famous stadium from the outside, then there is no need to factor in too much time for this site. The Olympic Park area has very little else on offer and sometimes limited amenities.
The stadium is lit up at night, which is when some people prefer to visit.
It is easy to reach the Olympic Park station by metro. Just take line 8.

This show gives the audience an opportunity to witness some of famous acrobatic talents. There is an assortment of skills on offer, from mesmorising plate spinning to adrenaline-inducing caged motorbike stunts – each act seemingly more impressive than the last! Though perhaps a little run down, the theatre itself is quite small and offers good views. Overall, definitely an entertaining show for most.

This is a great point to take in the surrounding landscape of this portion of the . Coming from , the scenery here provides an opportunity for peace and, at the right time of year, relative solitude. Jagged mountain tops rise and fall as far as can be seen, and it is easy to allow the imagination to flow away with them.

Top Tips

The path on the hike to this viewpoint is not even, nor flat – the full stretch is considered by the unseasoned hiker as being quite tough.
Come at a time of year when tourist numbers are low, and you may just have uninterrupted views.
Entrance to may cost, but once on the wall there is no additonal cost to climb the high points.

Though called Tongzi Hé, this body of water that circles the parameter is really a moat. Said to be once fed from holy sources, it is reportedly now filled from a reservoir. Though only a moat, this site benefits from the beautiful willow trees that line it in parts and is a popular spot for celebratory photos, such as weddings. That being said, the city walls that rise from the opposite side of the moat do make for a fortress-like scene and during an icy, winters day may well feel more imposing than expected.

Top Tips

The river is said to look particularly good during low light.
In winter is very cold, so expect this site to be covered with snow or ice.

Top Descriptions

This portion of the wall is said to be a favourite for photographers, and it is easy to see why once here. In the snowy month of January, the surrounding mountains are beautiful. The wall rises and falls with the landscape for as far as you can see and evokes a feeling of vastness that is perhaps equal to this country’s history and culture.

Top Tips

The path on this hike is not even, nor flat- the full stretch is considered by the unseasoned hiker as being quite tough.
Come at a time of year when tourist numbers are low, and you may just have uninterrupted views.
This hike did extend some kilometres farther, to Simatai proper; however, a portion of the wall is under renovation.
There are hawkers along the wall selling basic souvenirs, and water and chocolate bars at inflated prices.

While you’re here, consider trying out the . If you like architecture, nature and hiking, this makes for an excellent combination and is well worth the effort.
Consider visiting the wall in winter when there are fewer crowds. Thanks to frequent winter snowfalls, this is also a very picturesque time to visit (although it can be bitterly cold too so come prepared).
