Top Descriptions

Zhanshan Temple was reportedly built in 1945 and has been an active place of worship since. If you have visited a few Chinese temples before, there may not be anything too new to see here. Nevertheless, it does have a number of sites. There are a few Halls (each featuring different gilded statues), a drum tower, a bell tower, and a pagoda. Also, given its location next to and facing the sea, it’s a scenic enough spot.

has a reasonably extensive coastline, and it’s possible to walk for several miles with the path being intermittently sand, rocks, or walkway. For many, this is one of China’s most desirable beach areas. There is a long and (at times fairly wide) stretch of yellow sand. On a particularly quiet day and at the right spot, it is possible to really believe you are somewhere quite pleasant.

Top Tips

Since the 2008 Olympics, there are annual breakouts of intense green algae along this coast. Check ahead of your travelling plans if you hope to swim here.
During the summer months, the beach can become very full for quite some distance. Arrive in the morning to secure a good spot.
Services in around the beach are minimal during winter, so pack snacks and water if you plan a long walk at that time.

is a fairly typical urban Chinese city, but this park offers an opportunity to wander around in something a bit closer to nature (ignoring the rusty and dilapidated amusement rides). At the right time of year, the pond here is full of lotus flowers and lily pads, while at other times the cherry blossoms and flowers decorate the paths. It is may not compete with real hiking in the nearby , but it is a pleasant, family-friendly, space.

If you’ve written a description for Zhongshan Park (Qingdao) you’d like to share with the community, send it to [email protected] and we’ll post it right here in the directory.

Top Tips

This is a reasonably decent sized park, so do allow yourself an hour or two to explore.
If you do not want to pay the CNY100 for the cable car up to the TV tower then there is reportedly a walking path.
This park is said to be prettiest in spring when the flowers and cherry blossom are in full bloom.
