Aqaba’s 16th century castle is a small and dusty ruins and doesn’t quite compare to the other wonderful treasures Jordan has to offer such as . A few small walkways take you around the outer crumbled walls of what would have been rooms. – Sarah

Top Tips

It seems the stated opening times are not always adhered to and parts of the castle are under renovation. Check with locals or your hotel that the site is indeed open before heading here.
There are a couple of cafes and restaurants surrounding the castle, should you need refreshments.
The museum is included in the price of the castle but may not be open.
Though there isn’t much here, this is the only real historical attraction in and worth popping in to get off the busy streets for a little while.

Top Descriptions

Aqaba’s south beach is a good place for a walk or a dip and has excellent views of this country’s contentious neighbour, Israel. Though the beach itself is not world class, there is coral and an OK amount of sea life right off the shore. The water is fairly shallow in places, which helps to create that tropical blue sea scenery. It is still predominately frequented by locals, so there is an authentically Arabian and therefore conservative vibe. – Sarah

Top Tips

In spring the sea here is still surprisingly quite fresh and it is fairly windy, so do expect to be cooled off rather well.
There aren’t many amenities on this beach, apart from men renting snorkelling gear. If you go inland a little there are a few restaurants attached to hotels, such as , where you can get a meal.
As the sea is fairly shallow in parts it is possible to scratch yourself on the coral (damaging it too). Similarly, there is a guide rope which corners off a portion of the sea; hold it or brush up against it and risk coral rash.
