Top Descriptions

Sitting atop Tsitsernakaberd hill above the city of , this memorial is particularly effective. The 44-metre stelae elegantly and sharply penetrates the sky and is thought by many to be successful in its aim of representing the rebirth of the Armenian people. Nearby, there is also a 12 slab dome – each stone slab representing a lost Armenian territory. Inside the dome sits an eternal flame, kept alight to remember the one and a half million Armenians who perished during the genocide. Music plays aloud, further enforcing the Armenian identity.

Top Descriptions

The Yerevan History Museum is a much more modest establishment when compared with the . The four floors are quite small and seem to really display only what was perhaps not worthy of entering the national museum with things such as an early 20th century dining room, or the story of the town clock that lost a hand. Perhaps this is really interesting for the most avid of local historians. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

Although not too far out of town, this is perhaps best visited en-route/from the .
There are toilets here but few other amenities in and around the immediate area.
As this is a quite a cheap attraction which does go toward supporting local history projects, it may be worth popping in to contribute to the community.

Top Descriptions

The Armenian Genocide Museum is a moving commitment to remembering and honouring the Armenians who lost their lives during a long line of conflicts with Turkey. The lighting and building structure (descending a level as you walk through) contributes to the sense of despair commonly felt here. There are various sections to the photo exhibits (including a women and children’s part) which details quite graphically the atrocities that many experienced. Much of the displays are dedicated to medium length passages of enlightening text.
