England is undeniably world famous, and whether you’re visiting the country for its modern or ancient culture, its impressive architecture, or its excellent museums and sights, you’ll find plenty on offer here. Through its complex colonial history and subsequent spread of its language and culture, this small country in the northern reaches of Europe has managed to utilise most corners of the world. And this colonial past shows in the diverse array of cultures that call this green and pleasant (and mostly flat) land their home. But this mix of culture makes England somewhat of a working experiment in globalised society, and teething problems of late have sadly driven up nationalist sentiments and anti-immigration policies. But don’t let that put you off visiting. While the British might appear cold at first, if you try to engage them on the street or at a bus stop then they will respond and help you – and be quite happy to do it too! And if you’re on a budget, it is exactly the local advice that you should be looking for, for while England can certainly boast extensive and modern facilities it is by no means cheap or even good value for money. – Daniel

Top Tips
To keep costs down, try to book your transportation as far in advance as possible. You’ll pay a premium if you book on the day at the station, and quite often it’s cheaper to book two single tickets to get from A to B to C then it is to book a ticket straight from A to C.
The north of the country is often neglected in favour of London and the south, but value for money is slightly better up there and the people tend to be a little more warm-hearted too.
If you decide to drive in the UK, do make sure you pay careful attention to the road laws. There are speed cameras everywhere, and it’s illegal to drive in a bus lane. Lots of people get fined for simple things as well, such as parking in the wrong place. In fact, parking can be a nightmare, so if you have the money and the foresight, perhaps just use the extensive public transportation system.
If you’re on a budget, look out for the pub chain JD Wetherspoon as this is probably the cheapest ‘pub grub’ around.
