Bedford is a small riverside town in the county of Bedfordshire and a popular commuter destination. With excellent rail links to London, a central location, and a recent surge in urban development, many people are moving here to experience life on the Great Ouse. And it’s a multicultural place too, with one of the largest proportions of Italians in the UK, and thriving Indian and Polish communities. But as scenic as the ‘town of markets’ might be, there is a rougher quality to Bedford – as there are with many similar settlements in England, especially on the high street at the weekend. Keep an eye out for the Riverside North development that’s progressing in town. Along with the recently refurbished Bus Station, this should breathe a new bit of life into the town.
If you’re looking for a pleasant park close to the town centre, then the Priory Country Park might make for a good choice – especially if you’re a dog walker or it’s a clear day.
It’s worth looking into Box End Park. It’s a lovely spot on a clear day, and it’s particularly exciting because of the Wakeboarding School that’s based there.
