Wales may not see as many tourists as its more famous (and flatter) neighbour England, but it perhaps has more to offer at slightly better value – especially if you’re into the outdoors. Sure, transport is still expensive, and transit times can be quite slow, but with some impressive national parks such as Snowdon and Brecon Beacons, an extensive coastline, and some genuinely warmer people, Wales has a good deal to offer the casual tourist. Some cities can be a bit industrial and rough around the edges it’s true, but locations such as Swansea might just surprise you with how much clean green space there is. The language is fun too, especially with names such as Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. – Daniel

Top Tips
To keep costs down, try to book your transportation as far in advance as possible. You’ll pay a premium if you book on the day at the station, and quite often it’s cheaper to book two single tickets to get from A to B to C then it is to book a ticket straight from A to C.
If you decide to drive in the UK, do make sure you pay careful attention to the road laws. There are speed cameras everywhere, and it’s illegal to drive in a bus lane. Lots of people get fined for simple things as well, such as parking in the wrong place. In fact, parking can be a nightmare, so if you have the money and the foresight, perhaps just use the extensive public transportation system.
If you’re on a budget, look out for the pub chain JD Wetherspoon as this is probably the cheapest ‘pub grub’ around.
