          Top Descriptions

The Ciudad Perdida 4-Day Hike is a gruelling but absolutely worthwhile experience, culminating in the fascinating and well preserved ancient ruin of the . Set deep within the jungle, this historical site has only been accessible to the public since the 90s, and its impressive reputation among backpackers ever increases the tourist traffic using the single trail in and out. Of course, the hot and sweaty (and sometimes very muddy) nature of the 2-day-in and 2-day-out hike does keeps the tourist numbers down and manages to maintain an air of mystery and isolation on that unforgettable third day. Visit soon and you will truly have been one of the lucky few to have ever visited this amazing site and the extraordinary indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. – Daniel

          Top Tips

When meeting the , it’s a good idea to bring along useful items that you’re happy to donate such as clothes and shoes. – Matias Mercado
Bring insect repellent as the biting insects can be quite bad on the third day, and watch out for the dangerous (but beautiful) coral snakes!
Expect to be wet pretty much the entire duration of this hike – mainly due to sweat and river crossings. Try to hike to each camp as quickly as you are able so that you can dry your clothes off in any available sun, otherwise prepare yourself to be putting on wet clothes in the early hours of every morning.
If you go with the highly recommended , try to get Matias Mercado as your guide’s translator as he is very dedicated, helpful and professional.
