This gallery has surprisingly few pieces on display, considering its prime location in . The ground (first) floor houses temporary exhibits, as does one of the three rooms upstairs. These are often contemporary, although in February 2018 included a handful of sketches by Michelangelo. The first (second) floor has a room dedicated to some of the country’s most acclaimed talents such Pirosmani, Gudiashvili, and Kakabadze.

This is one of those small, low-key, hodge-podge of a museums. It doesn’t seem too unreasonable to think that perhaps the locals grabbed together the towns junk and treasures alike to make up two floors worth of “exhibits”. Taxidermist animals stand alongside old skis, portraits and glassware. The building, however, does certainly have some colonial charm.

This is a small museum dedicated to the works of the Armenian painter and sculptor Yervand Kochar. Whether you are already knowledgeable about this artist and his creations or are simply in the area, this is a worthwhile and well displayed museum to pop into. The enthusiastic staff will be more than happy to either educate you on the works of Yervand Kochar, or enter into conscientious debate about his creative output. Expect to find around 20 paintings and a handful of impressive sculptures.

Keep your eyes peeled for the three or four rotating paintings on display, as these are quite unique and interesting and should be appreciated from all angles.
Some of the staff here really are passionate about Yervand Kochar and art in general, and are more than willing to discuss this with you. Some of them are also artists themselves. This can make for quite an intimate setting, especially seeing as this museum isn’t any larger than three rooms.
Photography is not permitted outside of the main waiting area; this is because many of the works on display here are originals.
