Although it’s quite possible to rent ski equipment from a number of places in , this Ski Rental is the main official rental service for . You’ll find this service right next to and the main entrance to the resort. There are skis and snowboards for rent here, but don’t expect to find the equipment to be of particularly good quality or well looked after. The staff also don’t speak any English, so either brush up on your Russian or come prepared to mime!

Top Tips

You’ll need to leave a passport or an ID card here as a deposit when you rent equipment.
If you’re an absolute beginner, it’s possible to rent an instructor here for GEL50 an hour. Again though, there’s no English on offer so be prepared to communicate in other ways.
The staff here will want to know your shoe size (EU), and if you can communicate it your weight (kg) and height (cm) too.
The only toilets near here are some stinky portaloos behind the ski lift building (or inside when it opens).

The bus station in is more of a marhsrutka waiting area than it is any real bus station with facilities. Set on a roundabout beside the Santa Claus Hotel, this is where you’ll need to come if you’re arriving to or departing from this famous ski-resort town.

Top Descriptions

Orange Restaurant is pretty much the only place you’ll find food at , and for this reason alone it’s worth recommending. This is a simple restaurant though, with a not particularly extensive menu and with little of the food done well. Nevertheless, with its convenient and picturesque spot at the base of the mountain, its greenhouse-like design making full use of the fleeting sunshine, its outdoor seating, and its central log heater, you’ll not doubt enjoy your brief lunch or dinner here, even if it is a little overpriced.

Top Tips

The tall glasses of glintwine (mulled wine) for GEL8 are particularly good value here, and are warming after a morning of fun but cold skiing.
The pizzas here aren’t particularly recommended, and could certainly do with a better tomato base and some stronger cheese. The dough and crust isn’t half bad, though.
There’s a fairly OK toilet inside, which makes up for the frankly dire situation otherwise at the base of the resort (which is basically two stinky frozen portaloos to the right of ).

This ski lift is a funicular that takes you from the 3rd level of to the final of three levels of ski runs. Once at the top, you can choose to take one expert piste back down the mountain, or you can spend some time enjoying the impressive .

If you’ve written a description for Didveli Ski Resort Lift 3 (Bakuriani) you’d like to share with the community, send it to [email protected] and we’ll post it right here in the directory.

Top Tips

There is only one funicular that runs up and down this section of the mountain, and there’s no obvious path to walk instead either. You may have to wait some time for the next car, so be patient. It’s also not unheard of for a group to request a private trip, making your wait in the cold and snow that bit longer.
Be warned that intermittent power cuts can leave you stuck at the top of the mountain, where it’s bitterly cold. Come prepared, and bring a camera for the excellent views. Also, if there’s a power-cut while you’re in the funicular, expect the vehicle to lurch aggressively forwards.
One ride costs about GEL7, but if you’re thinking of taking a few journeys then the day pass for around GEL30 is probably the best value.
It only costs one ride to go up this ski lift; it doesn’t cost you anything to go down.

There are four lines to get onto this cable car. The queue to the farthest left (the last to get on) seems to often be the shortest – and one of the quickest too.
Be warned that intermittent power cuts can leave you suspended in mid air along this journey. It’s also worth noting that the ground just before the entrance to this ski lift can get very icy and slippery.
One ride costs about GEL7, but if you’re thinking of taking a few journeys then the day pass for around GEL30 is probably the best value.

Top Descriptions

While it may not be quite up to international standards, Didveli Ski Resort in certainly offers value-for-money in a family-friendly snowy environment. For little more than GEL170 per day, it’s possible to enjoy intermediate, advanced and expert slopes, with three ski lifts hoisting you up the 2,700m mountain. Certainly there are power cuts from time to time slowing things down, and rental equipment is a little subpar, but the scenery is certainly beautiful (visit the ) and the atmosphere is fun and inviting. It’s also possible to do night skiing here too.

Top Tips

It is possible to rent equipment here at the . Some of this gear isn’t great though, so do speak up if you want to change yours out for something that’s a better fit.
If you’re an absolute beginner, you might want to pay GEL50 an hour for an instructor. Many of these don’t speak English however, but they’ll happily hold your hand down the smallest intermediate slope. The best area to practice on your own is right next to , otherwise there aren’t really any true beginner slopes to speak of.
This is a popular spot with Russian tourists, and as an English speaker you may feel outnumbered and not particularly well catered for.
To get to or from , take a for GEL10.
