If you’ve visited many zoos in Asia and are at all conscious of animal welfare, you’ll probably know that they’re better avoided. The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens is no different. While there is some sort of botanical gardens here (mostly in the form of an orchid garden) the main focus is on entertainment for the family. The grounds are certainly pleasant enough to walk around, but some of the conditions the animals are kept in can be a little disconcerting. – Daniel

Top Tips

Don’t expect your usual well-manicured botanical garden; Toro Botanical Gardens is quite wild in places. Bring some sturdy shoes unless you are happy getting your feet wet.
A ‘free’ guide is offered with the entry, and if you’re worried about getting a little bit lost you might want to take up the offer!
This isn’t a bad spot for a morning ramble and a bit of bird watching. There is a kilometre between the entrance and the Kampala road exit and myriad paths in-between that you can explore, including a small pond and edible garden.
