Top Descriptions

Cartagena is easily the most popular location along the Colombian Caribbean coast, and it’s not too difficult to see why. With a good array of facilities, a consistent (although oppressive) climate, and a wonderful assortment of colonial treats to rummage through, Cartagena is deserving of its title as the jewel of the Caribbean – provided you stay in the old town. Wander out of the walled city and the situation declines rather quickly, both in interest and in safety. There might not be too much to do beyond wandering through pretty old colonial lanes, but that alone will certainly keep you busy for a few days. – Daniel

Top Tips

The squares in front and behind of this clock tower are some of the most attractive in the city.
If you get lost in the warren of alleyways of the historic city, any local should be able to point you back here. Especially if you can say ¿Dónde está la torre del reloj, por favor?
In the day time this is a good spot for vendors, but at night things become a little more seedy. Although it’s nicely lit up here after dusk, you might want to think twice about taking your children out here.
