Top Descriptions

This two-hour introduction is a great (and necessary) starter to your new life as a wakeboarder. Expect to have your helmet, lifejacket, kneeboard and ‘easy-up’ board included in the GBP39 price. After a short safety video, a bit of practising on the grass, and three successful laps on the kneeboards, you’ll be ready to stand up and give the real thing a go. Just don’t let yourself get annoyed by the queues; this is a popular activity on a lovely day.- Daniel

Top Tips

Wakeboarding is a lot more tiring at first then you’d expect. The cable tow is faster than it looks, and it tugs you quite hard – so be prepared to ache pretty much all over for the next few days.
Don’t give up if you fall in straight away the first few times. Many first-timers do! Just listen to the advice of the staff and try, try and try again until you get it. Also, it’s considered bad etiquette to laugh at those that do fall in – as much as you might want to ;-).
Don’t accept a broken board, even if the staff tell you that it’s fine. You’ll really struggle to get up at first, especially with a broken ‘easy-up’ board – which are heavier and more cumbersome anyway.
If you see someone fall in near to the start, help them get their board up the steps. It’s really difficult to do so on your own.

Top Descriptions

This tomb is quite distinct from the others in the area in the fact that it’s built into the hillside and has been extensively renovated. You can expect a steep climb up to the top and, once there, an elaborately decorated and restored interior. The grey colouring here also gives a more gothic appearance to the obelisks and statuary and the overall decor is somewhat more feminine. – Daniel

Top Descriptions

For East Africa, this is a very good value and very well organised tour. You’ll certainly have ample opportunity to see the big five in the wild, and if you’re lucky you might even see a kill or two. Just be prepared to have to do a good bit of travelling between the national parks and reserves. – Daniel

Top Tips

Accommodation along the tour is in , and . All campsites are more than adequate for how wild these areas are, but don’t come expecting luxury.
Although long journeys are kindly broken up with lunch and toilet stops, be forewarned that the toilets themselves are almost always conveniently placed inside large souvenir shops.
As Dennis Solomon at run tours like this every day, it’s very possible that you might have sections of this trip to yourself. All the same, you could find every seat on your minivan is full – especially in the . Hope for a not-too-busy-but-friendly minivan full.

Top Descriptions

There are three volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains that can be accessed fairly easily from , and Sabinyo may just be one of the best to visit on a day hike. The 6- to 8-hour route is equal parts challenging and exciting, with three separate peaks navigated by ladders and stairs and absolutely excellent views of the surrounding Muhabura and Gahinga volcanoes (on a clear day). It’s also deep in the territory of the famous mountain gorilla, and if you’re lucky you might just see one at a fraction of the cost. And if you don’t, well the environment alone is evocative enough to make this experience a worthy one. – Daniel

Top Tips

If you’re uncertain which volcano in the Virungas to hike, consider this one. It’s certainly more exciting than the in .
Expect to be navigating steep (and mostly makeshift) wooden ladders/stairs for quite a large portion of this hike, but especially up and down the three peaks.
Keep an eye out for chameleons on this route. We saw two along the way and two more in the trumpet-flower bushes in the Ntebeko car park. There’s also a small, but very real, possibility of coming across gorillas on this route.
